Optical pumping effects on high-contrast Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency

چکیده
We provide a universal discussion of the interplay between Rydberg-state electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and optical pumping (OP) in thermal Rb87 medium. By population to one single Hyperfine/Zeeman state, we can enhance interaction strength and, principle, amplify EIT peak. According our measurements, peak height be improved by factor two or reduced order magnitude, linewidth was slightly narrowed effect. Similar behavior is also seen increasing density (OD) The feature predicted quantitatively using Doppler-free non-perturbation numerical calculation. With without field, heights collapse onto same theoretical curve, showing that OP varying OD have In both simulations Rydberg enhancement through dependent on intensity probe field OD. Our work clarifies underlying mechanisms advances Rydberg-atom research.

Electromagnetically induced transparency with Rydberg atoms.
We present a theory of electromagnetically induced transparency in a cold ensemble of strongly interacting Rydberg atoms. Long-range interactions between the atoms constrain the medium to behave as a collection of superatoms, each comprising a blockade volume that can accommodate at most one Rydberg excitation. The propagation of a probe field is affected by its two-photon correlations within t...
متن کاملThree-photon electromagnetically induced transparency using Rydberg states.
We demonstrate electromagnetically induced transparency in a four-level cascade system where the upper level is a Rydberg state. The observed spectral features are sub-Doppler and can be enhanced due to the compensation of Doppler shifts with AC Stark shifts. A theoretical description of the system is developed that agrees well with the experimental results, and an expression for the optimum pa...
متن کاملOptical properties of electromagnetically induced transparency
A review of electromagnetically induced transparency is given. A semiclassical Hamiltonian is used to show that atomic coherence can inhibit absorption and enhance dispersion in the adiabatic limit. Experimental demonstrations and applications are discussed. The nonadiabatic effects are derived in the c-number Langevin formalism, and shown to give rise to correlate the phase of two incident fie...

We demonstrate coherent optical detection of highly excited Rydberg states (up to n=124) using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), providing a direct nondestructive probe of Rydberg energy levels. We show that the EIT spectra allow direct optical detection of electric field transients in the gas phase, and we extend measurements of the fine structure splitting of the nd series up to...
متن کاملElectromagnetically Induced Transparency in 6 Li Electromagnetically Induced Transparency In
We report electromagnetically induced transparency for the D1 and D2 lines in 6 Li in both a vapour cell and an atomic beam. Electromagnetically induced transparency is created using co-propagating mutually coherent laser beams with a frequency difference equal to the hyperfine ground state splitting of 228.2 MHz. The effects of various optical polarization configurations and applied magnetic f...
